TIMO CHEN
"Biography" and Contact:Composer, Music Producer, Songwriter, and Multi-Instrumentalist Timo Chen began studying piano at the age of 5 at the Colburn School of Performing Arts. Young Timo didn't deal with reading music and practicing, but his natural affinity for improvisation and melody more than made up for his impatience and good looks. He went on to study at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and upon graduation, he paid off his student loans by playing in top-40 bands across Asia where he could take time off to study Balinese Gamelan, Tai-Ji Quan, Peking Opera, and shop for fake brand-name clothing and bootlegged media. He returned to the states in the late 90s and soon after began working with legendary producer David Tickle (Four non-blondes, Blondie, Split-Enz). Frustrated by the bands he was working with, he was given the opportunity to work with academy-award winning film maker Chris Tashima to do music for his short film, “Day of Independence.” Little by little, his career finally started to take off (with the stress on “little”). Today you can hear his music in various iPhone applications, airline safety-videos, television shows (“Access Hollywood,” “ABC News,” and various ESPN spots), commercials, and award-winning independent films that have screened at top-rate festivals such as Dubai, Sundance, Los Angeles, and Tribeca. To get a slightly less entertaining, but more serious biography/resume, contact timo at the address below ANNOUNCEMENT: The next version of t-monicmusic dot com will have a new feature: A "anecdote" switch where users can turn off all forms of text-based humor and have a very serious site. Users please note that the use of humor is but a humble attempt to break the ice amidst a digital sea of composer websites, all of which by nature can be a bit cold and not-so-human.:-)
